Inspired by Bad Bunny’s performance during the Halftime Show at Super Bowl LX this piece began as an exploration of the cultural symbolism woven throughout the performance. After the game, I spent time researching and brainstorming so I could intentionally incorporate Puerto Rican influences into the vinyl.

I included the outfit he wore during his performance which carries a lot of personal meaning behind it. The number 64 represents the birth year of his late uncle, and the name “Ocasio” on the back honors his family. This was his way of dedicating this performance to his uncle.

The outfit itself was designed by Zara, a Spanish retailer, adding another layer of cultural connection.

He also wore sunglasses and a diamond football-shaped stud earring, which I reimagined in my signature style using glitter. I incorporated the Super Bowl colors into the lenses of the sunglasses as a way to tie the piece back to the event.

During one moment of the performance, he holds the original Puerto Rican flag with the lighter blue color, a historic version of the flag prior to U.S. colonization. I wanted to capture that moment, so I included it in the piece along with plants and flowers native to Puerto Rico, plus coconuts and a palm tree to evoke the island’s tropical vibe. I also included the grass and sugarcane fields as Bad Bunny pays homage to all the farmers and workers in Puerto Rico during his performance.

I used vibrant colors throughout, inspired by the bright and beautiful Puerto Rican art. My goal was to bring that sense of life, pride, and cultural celebration into this work.
